We had fun today at CERES. We enjoyed a walk along Merri Creek on the lookout for rubbish both in and out of the creek. We talked about how the creek had been replanted with native plants for the wildlife and visited the rubbish trap. There was a big crane/hook used to empty the rubbish trap in the drain. The kids had 'grabbers' and buckets to collect rubbish along the way.
We also did a rain dance and fun relay game around the theme of saving water, made some paper from recycled paper (this will come home when dry) and told a story about a river that was damaged by people upstream. The kids acted out the story and added detergent, rubbish etc to a pretend river. It sure got messy! You may find the kids nag you about using recycled paper, having short showers and turning taps off properly!
